Abortion doctor killed

This doesn't make much sense. Dr. George Tiller was shot and killed Sunday while he was at church. Dr. Tiller was one of the few late term abortion doctors. He, of course, has been protested against for years. The obvious assumption is that he was killed by someone who thought what he was doing was murder, not medicine. But what a staggering contradiction; it is not OK to kill a baby before it is born, but it is OK to kill an adult doctor?! How do people get this messed up in the head?

Dr. Tiller was no stranger to violence. in 1985 his clinic was bombed, in 1993 he was shot in both arms, he has received threats and vandalism for years. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family that was left behind.

Next step to Fusion

Forget the crappy wind and solar energy. Fusion is what will really revolutionize the world. Right now it is still science fiction, but I think one day it will be real. Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California has created the worlds most powerful Laser. It can heat up hydrogen to the temperature of the sun, enough to allow it to start fusing into helium and releasing huge amounts of energy.
"Very shortly we will engage in what many believe to be this nation's greatest challenge thus far, one that confronts not only the nation but all of mankind -- energy independence," said lab director George Miller.

All I can say is... cool.

Half a MILLION dollars per houshold

Wow... the government has spent so much money it doesn't have, it (we) now owes over half a million dollars per household in the United States. What an incredible tragedy.

The average household earned just over $50,000 dollars in 2007. So that means the government would have to take ALL the income that every American earns for the next 10 years to pay off the debt! Is this possible?! I hope I made a math error, that just seems impossible.

Just give us Money

World Wildlife Fund (WWF) TV Commercial:

WWF: "Polar bears ARE on their way to extinction. If we don't act now, MOST will die in our children's lifetime"

Now compare that to the WWF website:
In 2008 "There are 20,000 to 25,000 polar bears."
In 2002 "The world population, estimated at 22,000 bears"
"In general, the status of this species is stable"

I love animals, and I certainly don't want Polar Bears to die, but the WWF is lying! They just want your money. Find a better organization to donate to, one that is honest.

Glad that problem is solved

US Energy Secretary Steven Chu has solved Global Warming!

There is around 150 million homes in America. A gallon of white paint is $20 bucks, each roof takes 2 cans. So for 6 billion dollars we can solve Global Warming. Obama can spend that much before breakfast.

I see no downside to this.

Who says you can't parody Obama

The BorowitzReport, while attempting to be satirical, has actually nailed the US foreign policy for the next 3.5 years!
One day after North Korea launched a successful test of a nuclear weapon, President Obama said that the United States was prepared to respond to the threat with "the strongest possible adjectives... Mr. Obama said that North Korea should fear the "full force and might of the United States' arsenal of adjectives" and called the missile test "reckless, reprehensible, objectionable, senseless, egregious and condemnable... But President Obama attempted to calm those fears, saying that the United States was prepared to "scour the thesaurus" to come up with additional adjectives and was "prepared to use adverbs" if necessary.

I'm sorry for being American

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi was speaking in China’s Tsinghua University today about global warming. In responding to a student questioning how she was going to get Americans to lower their carbon footprint she responded that education was important and also that “We have so much room for improvement. Every aspect of our lives must be subjected to an inventory ... of how we are taking responsibility."

Wow, what a missed opportunity! A child in a communist country asked one of the most powerful leaders in America how she is going to make fellow Americans do what she wants. How about a response like this:
“Well, as an American, I believe in freedom. My country has succeeded because of the freedoms we have. So I am not going to make my fellow countrymen and women do anything. We have extremely bright, innovative people working everyday to invent new, better ways to live. We have reduced greatly the amount of pollution we make compared to the amount of products we produce. We have wonderful companies that innovate and come up with ways to make their products while recycling and eliminating waste. I have full faith that America will continue to find ways to create what we need while driving down the environmental impact and cost. We must”.

But, sadly, no… as usual we apologize for our way of life; say we have so much improvement to do, then say every aspect of our lives must be subjected to an inventory! Well I say we start with you Mrs. Pelosi:
Please provide us with an account of exactly what temperature your house was last night while you were sleeping?, how many appliances do you have?, did you leave the water on while brushing your teeth?, what temperature is your water heater set at?, how long of a shower did you take?, what kind of soap do you use?, is it natural?, are your clothes natural fibers or synthetics?, how much fuel was burned getting you and all your bodyguards to work today?, how much fuel was burned going over to China to give a speech?, how many homes do you have back in America right now with lights on and air conditioning on while you are in China?, Do you use one-ply or two-ply toilet paper?, what is your electricity bill?, how much of your electricity is from solar and wind?, do you drive an electric car?, did you fly an electric plane?, do you eat beef?, do you drink soda?, how much of your trash do you recycle and reuse?, what do you do with your table scrapes, do you compost?, on a hot summer day do you turn on the air conditioning or do you just sweat all day?

These are all very important questions for leaders of our country to answer, after all, every aspect of our lives must be subjected to an inventory. Sounds like she is right at home in China.

What Amendment? Oh the First one, must of missed it

My entire life I have enjoyed complete religious freedom. It is hard for me to even imagine living in a society where this does not exist. However, I know that this is a fairly rare freedom in the world and an extremely rare freedom in human history. My freedom derives from our founding document:

Amendment 1 - 12/15/1791
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

However the Bible predicts that we will be persecuted. And all freedoms, if not fought for and preserved, are eroded away. There is no better example, in this country, then what is happening in San Diego, California. This has been ground zero for the secularization and liberalization of our society for years. The latest example, a news story is reporting that a pastor and his wife were interrogated by a San Diego County official for having a Bible study in their home.
“Do you have a regular meeting in your home?”
“Do you say amen?”
“Do you pray?”
“Do you say praise the Lord?”
The county employee then notified them they were in violation of county regulations and threatened to fine them if they did not stop their Bible study. The county official was responding to a complaint from a neighbor when his car was hit by one of the people in the Bible study.

I am not surprised by this, the culture war is real and Christians are losing. We must do what we can, stand and fight, hold our ground, and not give in.

Oh they're grinning alright

When Maryland couldn't balance its budget it came up with the all too common idea: to raise taxes. And since the rich are a tiny minority whose vote is irrelevant, the politicians created a new millionaire tax bracket. Combined with the local taxes, the state now collected almost 10% of income! Add 35% federal tax and 6.2% SS tax and 1.5% Medicare tax and the government is taking over half of the money these Americans are earning!

Governor Martin O'Malley said the rich were "willing and able to pay their fair share". Only a politician thinks taking over half of someones paycheck is "fair". They predicted an increase of $106 million more in state revenue. The Baltimore Sun predicted the millionaires would "grin and bear it".

Well, reality hit this year when they actually collected $100 million LESS in taxes from the millionaires. Last year there were 3000 millionaires, this year only 2000 of them filed. Of course the economy was part of that, but many also left, moving to other states where they probably had other homes, or some maybe even cheated on taxes to hide income.

So the liberal solution to every problem "tax the rich", actually created a larger burden on the middle-class.

Here is a commonsense approach every American uses when they run low on money... SPEND LESS!

Was don't tread on me. Now don't offend me

A supervisor in the Kindred Hospital in Mansfield, Texas found an American flag offensive in a hospital office, so she took it down. It was put up by another supervisor for Memorial Day whose husband and sons are former military men and whose daughter is currently serving in Iraq as a combat medic. The hospital sided with the first supervisor and ordered the flag remain down.
http://cbs11tv.com/local/patriotism.at.office.2.1020415.html
I'm curious what is offensive about it? The article says the first supervisor has been in the US for 14 years and is originally from Africa. What does that mean? Is she a US citizen? I am assuming she is. The flag was 3' X 5’. Would a little flag be less offensive? Maybe the colors clashed with the drapes. I understand that some people don't get all patriotic when they see the flag, but here is a woman whose entire family has served in the military. On Memorial Day (a National holiday), she wants to show her support at work. With 350 million people in the country someone will be offended at everything, on Memorial Day, how about we side with the military and their families!

What a great Country

Living in Upstate South Carolina is great. This Memorial Day weekend we enjoyed Freedom Weekend Aloft. Rides, food, music, and Balloons:

This followed the military parade the previous weekend. You see this stuff on TV, but when you watch a tank roll by you 10 feet away, it is awesome. I can't imagine the terror felt by the enemy if this thing is loaded and looking for you!

Thank you to all the service personnel who have given all they have for us to enjoy weekends like this!
UPDATE: A reader noted that the proper term is not tank, but IFV, for infantry fighting vehicle.
